Many childhood dreams have been made to play baseball in the big league. Sunday the Charlotte Knights and Make-A-Wish made one young fan's dream of that a reality.

12-year-old Timothy "Eli" Shenise is one of those that love baseball.

"I think it's just a fun sport to play," said Eli.

However, Eli is in the fight of his life. He is currently Burkitt's Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system. He has completed two rounds of chemotherapy treatment and is still faced with another two rounds.

"I never thought my kid would get cancer. I never though this would happen to me and it did," said Eli's mother Niki.

Niki spoke highly of what Make-A-Wish and the Charlotte Knights have given her son during this difficult time.

"People like Make-A-Wish do make it a lot easier and especially for the child," said Niki.

Eli was signed to a one day contract and Knights Chief Operating Officer, Dan Rajkowski said the new partnership with Make-A-Wish is just another way for the Knights to give back to the community.

"Our organization is involved in the community and this is just a small thing that we can do to hopefully make a young man's day," said Rajkowski. "He's gone through a lot and we want to be able to create an enjoyable experience out here."

After signing the dotted line, Eli hit the field and took some infield ground ball practice from Knights manager Joel Skinner and Knights 2nd baseman Justin Jirschele.

"Everything that he's going through and to be able to come out and have some fun on the field it brings you back to your child days. It was a lot of fun," said Jirschele.

Eli's dreams of becoming a big leaguer are still as strong as they were before his day as a Knight.

"I really want to become a major league baseball player when I get older so I'm going to try to work really hard at that," said Eli

Eli also threw out the first pitch before the Knights faced the Gwinnett Braves. The Knights lost, 6-0 to the Braves.
