Nine of the Carolinas' best marching bands performed at the Queen City Battle of the Bands, Saturday evening. Seven historically black colleges and universities as well as two high schools performed at Memorial Stadium in front of 10,000 people.

Performing at the showcase: Elizabeth City State University, Johnson C. Smith University, North Carolina A&T University, Shaw University, South Carolina St. University, Winston Salem State University, Talladega College, Greensboro Dudley High and Harding University High.

No winner was crowned, instead, all schools received scholarship money from the proceeds to go towards the band.

If you want to catch a drumline for yourself, Johnson C. Smith's band performs during their football team's halftime.

JCSU has home games on  September 13 vs. Kentucky State University, September 27 vs. Virginia Union University, October 11 vs. Winston-Salem State University (at Memorial Stadium), November 1 vs. Saint Augustine's University (at Memorial Stadium) and November 8 vs. Livingstone College.
