Report: Officer Who Threatened To Kill Ferguson Protesters Suspended Indefinitely

Posted: Updated:
An officer who threatened to kill protesters in Ferguson, MO has been removed from duty and suspended indefinitely.

A Youtube video from Tuesday night showed the officer pointing his weapon at protesters while yelling profanities at them. He offered more profanity when asked to identify himself. The officer has been identified as Lieutenant Ray Albers of the St. Ann Police Department.

The ACLU sent a letter to Missouri Highway Patrol Superintendent Colonel Ron Replogle on Wednesday asking for the Albers' removal. The ACLU claimed his actions contributed to already-high tensions as a result of unrest following the death of Mike Brown.

“This officer's conduct—from pointing a weapon, to threatening to kill, to responding with profanity to a request for identity—was from start to finish wholly unacceptable,” the letter stated.

The St. Ann Police Dept. apparently agreed, as they condemned Albers' actions in the statement announcing his suspension.

“The unified command strongly feel these actions are inappropriate, and not indicative of the officers who have worked daily to keep the police."
