QB battle continues between Cook and Douglas

Davidson Football's First Scrimmage Yields Positive Results

Davidson Football held their first scrimmage leading up to the 2014 regular season on Saturday, and the battle for starting quarterback continued.

Sophomore quarterback John Cook, and senior quarterback J.P. Douglas have battled for the starting job throughout the offseason.

"I'll be real honest with you," Wildcats head coach Paul Nichols said after the scrimmage. "It has been very interesting to watch 4 [Douglas] and 13 [Cook] go back and forth. You know, I'd like to go watch the video again, but I'll tell you this - there seemed to be a good flow with both of the quarterbacks."

The two rotated sets with the starting groups and with the second-string.  During the portion of the scrimmage that we were able to see, Cook was working with the second-stringers, but seemed to have the offense moving more smoothly.

"Right there, at the end, when we put the guys in a two-minute situation, it was nice to see John Cook execute and move the guys down the field."

Cook threw a touchdown during the portion of the scrimmage we saw. n

Wildcats junior wide receiver William Morris described the two quarterbacks after the scrimmage.

"They're a little different," Morris said. "They both have great arms, they're both really athletic. As wide receivers we like them both.

"Working with the ones and the twos, they both moved [the ball] effectively today, and yeah, I think we just got a lot of good work out of them, so I think we're really pleased with their efforts."
