WAUKEGAN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The father who took his two young children Thursday morning from a north suburban government office has been taken into custody, according to police.

Dyniste S. Finley, 4; and her brother Dejavante D. Finley, 3, were taken about 9:20 a.m. from a government building at 15 S. County St. in Waukegan, according to the Illinois AMBER Alert website and Zion police.

Both children were found safe shortly afterward, according to Zion Deputy Chief Kirk Henderson.

They were delivered to a Department of Children and Family Services office in Waukegan by a relative right around the time the Amber Alert was issued, according to police.

After fleeing, Dejavante Finley, 23, was taken into custody Thursday night by Zion police and the U.S. Marshals Service, Zion police said Friday.

Authorities issued the alert Thursday morning after Finley took the boys from their mother while they were in a public defender's office, police said.

He had been driving a 2006 dark blue Chevrolet Malibu that was later found in North Chicago, according to Zion police.

Finley is currently on parole after being sentenced to 3 years for a felony domestic battery conviction, and 5 years for aggravated battery, both from Lake County in 2011, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records.

He is also the subject of two active warrants in Lake County, the first issued in June charging nine felony counts including theft, domestic battery, unlawful restraint and criminal damage to property, Lake County court records show.

Authorities issued another warrant for his arrest in July, alleging seven counts including aggravated battery, aggravated domestic battery, theft and unlawful restraint, according to court records.

Officers had previously responded to the home on complaints of domestic violence, Zion police said.

Finley was in custody Friday evening at the Lake County Jail, according to Zion police.
