Crowd Gassed, Journalists Arrested As Ferguson Protests Continue

Posted: Updated:

Another day of protesting in Ferguson, MO has led to another scary night. Ferguson Police arrested two journalists in the early evening hours and then shot tear gas into a crowd after claiming a bottle was thrown at them.

The reporters, Wesley Lowery of the Washington Post and Ryan Reilly of the Huffington Post, were there to cover the fallout from the shooting of Mike Brown. There has been continuing unrest since the unarmed 18-year-old was killed by police officers after they say he assaulted an officer and reached for his gun.

The pair tweeted about their arrests and were later released without charges.

“Officers decided we weren't leaving McDonalds quickly enough,” Lowery tweeted. “Shouldn't have been taping them.”

Lowery also tweeted that officers said he was arrested because he was trespassing at McDonalds.

Meanwhile, a tense standoff between protesters and police ended with police shooting tear gas into a crowd after they say someone threw a bottle towards them.

“This is no longer a peaceful protest,” police said over the loudspeaker prior to releasing the gas.
