Indian Trail is said to be a "Trekky-sort of town," -- filled with many Star Trek fanatics. On Dec. 31, 2013, former-town council member David Waddell resigned his seat in the Star Trek language "Klingon" -- and now, he's pushing for write-in votes for the United States Senate.

“Life, liberty and property are given and...individuals are the stewards of those gifts and...government's role is to preserve it from being taken," Waddell says.

Waddell says that he is serious about the campaign and that in all likelihood, he prefers to leave the Star Trek image behind. Although, he has not ruled out a prank or two in the spirit of political-fun.

Waddell is a member of the Constitution Party of North Carolina, which says it has seven essential core values -- life, religious freedom, traditional family, private property rights, pro-second amendment, anti-socialism and national sovereignty
