Concord-Based Sanctioning Body of Dirt Track Racing Explains Rules

Posted: Updated:

A representative with the World Racing Group, an organization which makes and enforces the rules at many dirt tracks across the country, says their rules are clear cut. World Racing Group, which is based in Concord, did not sanction the event in New York Saturday night which involved a deadly wreck.

Dolack said, “Racing's a highly emotional sport for sure, whether you're on dirt, or you're on pavement.”

Over the weekend the sport turned tragic when Kevin Ward got out of his car after a wreck at a New York track. Ward walked onto the dirt and appeared to be confronting Tony Stewart about the crash when Stewart struck ward with his car, and Ward died.

Dolack said, “There are multiple places in our rule book that specify that drivers should stay in their car, unless they're in danger.”

Dolack points to several rules from the World Racing Group’s rule book. One regulation says any member who goes to another competitor's car and becomes involved in an altercation can be disqualified, face fines, or suspensions. Another rule says any team member that goes onto the racing surface without permission under a controlled period, meaning during the race, can also be kicked out of the event.

Dolack said that drivers always get briefed on the rules, and his organization has not had to deal with drivers getting out of their cars “very often.”
