Growing up wasn't easy for Jazzy Kirkley. He didn't have a mom or dad and he was raised by another family. "I grew up on a farm in the country," Kirkley said. "My mom and dad left me with a white family. That family raised me as a kid." Today, family is everything to Kirkley. But his favorite thing to do? Throw some punches.

If you've been scrolling social media you might have seen people dumping ice water all over their head. So what is that about? It's called the Ice Bucket Challenge and the goal is to raise money and awareness for ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).

If dared to take the challenge, you have 24 hours to dump a bucket of ice water over your head, or make a donation to an ALS charity.

According to ALS Association President Barbara Newhouse, more than $168,000 has been raised from online donations so far this year. Compared to last year, where at this point, only $14,000 was raised from online donations.
“This is a creative way to spread ALS awareness via social media and in communities nationwide,” said Newhouse.

The challenge was started by Pete Frates, of Beverly, Massachusetts. Frates is a former Division 1 baseball player for Boston College and has lived with ALS since 2012.
