Kay Hagan Makes Campaign Stop at Charlotte National Night Out

Posted: Updated:

U.S. Senator Kay Hagan made a stop in Charlotte at National Night Out in the Hidden Valley neighborhood. She stumped in Mecklenburg County on the home turf of her opponent, Republican Thom Tills.

Hagan has been running an ad referring to herself as a "moderate." She's reaching out to more than just Democrats in order to try and win the U.S. Senate race in November.

Hagan says she plans the biggest “get out the vote” effort North Carolina has ever seen in the Senate race. Hagan said, “I represent every North Carolinian in the U.S. Senate, and I don’t care if it’s a Democratic idea or a Republican idea. If it’s good for North Carolina, that’s what I am advocating for.”

She was quick to say her opponent, Thom Tillis, has “gutted” public education, despite his latest efforts in the North Carolina legislature to give teachers a pay raise.

The Tillis campaign has targeted Hagan on the country’s debt and the passage of Obamacare. Hagan said, “I think what people are looking for are common sense fixes and how to improve the law. They don’t want their healthcare being used as a political football.”

The Senate race is one that’s getting a lot of attention nationally because it could determine the balance of power in the U.S. Senate. Hagan said, “People are getting energized and understand how high the stakes are in this race.”
