Let it Rip Weekend: Mayoral race and EM's 'dumb & lazy' comment

We take on the race for Detroit Mayor and the controversial comments by Detroit's EM calling Detroiters "dumb, lazy, happy and rich."
A new poll shows Mike Duggan leading in the race for Detroit Mayor. Could those dirty tricks against him actually be paying off in his favor? Duggan supporter and community activist Malik Shabazz thinks

On this edition we take a look at the proposed increase in the SMART Bus millage.  They're asking people who own a $100,000 home to pay about $50 more a year.  If it doesn't pass, SMART says they can't afford to keep going and may have to shut the system down.  Joining us to debate it is Megan Owens from Transit Riders United, who says it's critical for voters to approve the millage because so many people rely on it for so many reasons.  But Leon Drolet from the Michigan Taxpayers Alliance thinks SMART is asking for too much money and thinks the system should be reformed before taxpayers are forced to kick in any more funds.

Next, we take a look at the Renisha McBride murder trial.  Ted Wafer of Dearborn Heights is facing 2nd degree murder for shooting and killing her back in November on his front porch.  Police believe she was looking for help after getting into a drunk driving crash in Wafer's neighborhood.  Wafer's claiming he shot McBride out of fear she was a home invader.  Before jurors decide if this was a case of murder or self-defense, our experts weight in.  Steve Kaplan is now a private practice attorney, but he was once a former Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor.  He debates defense attorney Neil Rockind.

Finally, we take a hard look at the environmental impact of the Woodward Dream Cruise.  Jerry Hasspacher with the Michigan Sierra Club thinks the Cruise could do a lot to reduce its carbon footprint, like parking the cars on the road instead of driving them.  He's also promoting an alternative event called the Green Cruise, which is held in Ferndale the weekend before.  Also joining us is Jon Witz, Metro Detroit's preeminent big event promoter.  He says you could tweak the Dream Cruise a little, but parking the cars just wouldn't work.
