TENNESSEE-A young woman planned a wedding ceremony so her father could get the chance to walk her down the aisle. The ceremony did not include groom, but instead, a special moment shared between a daughter and her beloved father.
Whitney Moore’s father, David Moore, was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer last year. At the time, doctors told him he had 6 to 9 months to live without any treatment, and probably 9 to 12 months if he received radiation.
Doctors believe the medication David was on for his heart may have contributed to the cancer.
After receiving the news, Whitney, her brother Logan, and mother, Linda, wanted to make the most of the time they had left together.
"Since my dad was diagnosed with his cancer at stage IV, it really, you know, hit me," she said. "I questioned it. I got mad. I questioned God and I got mad at God. I was just wondering why it had to be my dad. But everything happens for a reason,” Whitney told the Kingsport-Times News.
When Whitney was feeling down, she came across a story about an 11-year-old girl from California, whose father also had terminal cancer. The girl created a wedding ceremony so her dad could walk her down aisle. The inspiration led to Whitney deciding she wanted her father to share that special moment with her before he passed.David wasn’t thrilled with the idea at first; however, he warmed up to it eventually.
The big day finally arrived on June 14th, Whitney prepared for her wedding like any other bride. She got her hair and makeup done. She picked a few of her closest friends to be her bridesmaids on the special day. Logan even got to be the ring bearer in the ceremony.
The wedding was captured by photographer Emily Lauren. Whitney was dressed in a white long gown and David wore a suit, topped off with a pink bow tie. The two walked, arm-and-arm down the aisle. After David walked Whitney down the aisle, they stood under an arch and told one another how much they meant to each other.
After the ceremony, the two shared a father-daughter dance to the song, “Daddy Dance With Me.” Then, came a big surprise. Whitney received a special gift from her father, a ring with the word Sugar, engraved on the inside—a nickname David called Whitney when she was younger.
Now, David just has one more wish to take Logan fishing off a pier. That trip is scheduled for August 10th.
