Panthers Notebook: Wharton Retiring, Benjamin Healing

Posted: Updated:

One of the Carolina Panthers longest tenured players is calling it quits. Guard Travelle Wharton announced his retirement today.

Originally selected in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft, Wharton played in 115 games for the Panthers, starting all but four of them. Those numbers place him among the franchise’s all-time leaders in both categories.

Wharton helped the Panthers to playoff appearances in 2005, 2008 and 2012. Coach Ron Rivera says he will be missed.

“I had the pleasure of coaching Travelle for two seasons and he was a pro in every sense of the word,” Rivera said. “His preparation was never lacking in any respect and he gave you complete effort on the field. Most of all, you always knew you could count on Travelle.”
