Rowan County Sheriff's Office Abruptly Cancels Parsons Press Conference

Posted: Updated:

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office abruptly canceled a press conference scheduled today to update the Erica Parsons case. The Sheriff's Office did not explain why there was a cancellation, except to say that the press conference was not planned and they were only responding to interview inquiries from various media outlets and trying to schedule the responses at the same time.

The Sheriff's Office did respond in writing to various media questions. The most significant developments from those questions were that investigators are making progress, and they have followed a lead within the past several days. The Sheriff's Office says evidence collected from the Parsons family property has been processed. They will not release results.

The Sheriff's Office says they have not received any recent calls about sightings and their progress in the case is coming through their investigative work.

Erica Parsons was 13 years old when she was last seen by her family in November of 2011. Her adoptive brother, Jamie Parsons, reported her missing on July 30, 2013. Erica's adoptive parents, Casey and Sandy Parsons, told investigators Erica went to live with her biological grandmother Nan, but investigators say no such person exists.

Erica's biological mother, Carolyn Parsons, said, "I really, really hope that there was some significant something, information, a tip, something really majorly important that canceled this," referring to the press conference being called off.
