Speedway, IN -

Last year, Ryan Newman won the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. As you can imagine, the team was excited and proud of the accomplishment. That was certainly true for Catawba County’s Jason Jarrett.

“It almost feels like the people in your home town almost make you feel like you’ve done something to win the race,” he said.

Jarrett is the son and grandson of NASCAR Hall of Famers Dale Jarrett and Ned Jarrett. He started off as a racer, but switched careers when, following the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May of 2006, his dad needed a new spotter.

“He wanted to take a different turn in the sport,” said Dale Jarrett. “I’ll tell you, he’s hardworking and you know he’s found his niche in being a spotter and I think that former drivers, especially ones that were good, make really good spotters.”

Jason agrees.

“Seeing it from this perspective, I feel like I would have been a better driver had I seen it from this perspective first,” he said.

Dale Jarrett commented, “Jason’s very well respected, he does a lot of things just besides spot. That people think a lot of him inside the sport and that makes me proud.”

That respect is something Jason has been able to earn on and off the race track.

“When you have Ned Jarrett as your grandfather, Dale Jarrett as your dad, my mom and everyone has just instilled into me to be nice to people, to treat people how you want to be treated,” he said. “It sounds so cliche, but I think it just goes back to being good to people.”
