Friday, for my assignment, I was tasked with a ride-along in a Global Rallycross car, at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Cars that go zero-to-60 in 1.9 seconds -- that's faster than a formula one car. We're talking about machines with absurd power. Not a bad gig... But enough to make you a little skittish.Honestly as I was arriving at the track, I was excited. Truly not very nervous. Then, about a half hour after I arrived, I started hearing rumors that another local TV sports anchor was involved in an accident last year, with Travis Pastrana at the wheel... That's when the nerves started to grow a little bit.
Watch the videos above -- the sheer power is tremendous. 600 horsepower, hammering to the ground and ripping across the pavement at insane speeds, drifting through corners, and accelerating flawlessly.
After three laps, I was in awe. The power, the handling, the sheer speed. Truly impressive. More than enough to make me want to say "I'm proud that I can say I did it"... but also enough to say "Yeah, you know what -- once is enough."
