New hearing aid technology syncs with your iPhone

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) - Ten percent of Americans have some hearing loss but most of the people who could get help from a hearing aid won't wear one because they are embarrassed. But now, new technology may change the way we feel about hearing aids.

These new hearing aids aren't just smaller - they're smarter.

Using Bluetooth technology, the volume or background noise is adjusted with an app on your iPhone. You can also take a call through your hearing aids.

For example, going to a noisy deli used to be tough for Donna Garbarz, who has a condition that causes progressive hearing loss as she ages. But now she can use the microphone on her iPhone to pick up the conversation.

The technology also includes a Find my Hearing Aids feature, so your iPhone will track them down if you lose them. The hearing aids cost about $3,000 dollars each.
