Claremont Trying To Clear Up Letter Confusion

Posted: Updated:
The City of Claremont wants its residents to know that a letter requesting payment for exterior water line coverage is not being sent out by local government.

Several residents have received the letters, encouraging homeowners to sign up for a yearly contract of $59 with multiple payment options.

City Manager Doug Barrick stressed that the letter is not endorsed by the city. He says this is something the city feels could potentially be a scam to homeowners in the Claremont community.

“If the city was a part of this, our logos would be here and we would let our residents know that they were getting a letter like this,” he said. “Make sure you read the fine print and make sure you’re not a victim to a potential scam.”

HomeServe USA Repair Management Corp, the company responsible for the letter, describes itself as an independent company separate from local utility companies.

“We don’t endorse it," Barrick said. "We don’t want to support it, but we want to leave that decision up to the property owners."
