NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - The newest Internet sensation is Canadian singer Shawn Mendes.

With fans gathered outside Fox 5's studio since 4 a.m., Mendes, 15, came out to greet the crowd before his performance on Good Day New York. "You guys are crazy and awesome," said Mendes to the crowd of teenagers screaming in glee. "They're all pretty cool, chill and understanding."

Some lucky girls were able to watch Mendes perform his hit single "Life of the Party" live in studio, which skyrocketed to #1 on iTunes in less than an hour. The single had over 150,000 first week sales turning Mendes into the youngest artist to ever break Billboard’s Hot 100’s Top 25.

Born and raised in Toronto, Mendes, 15, says he would come home from school as early as the age of 10 and spend hours watching YouTube users cover songs and learn how to play the guitar.

The teen's music went viral after posting a Vine clip of himself singing the chorus to Justin Bieber’s “As Long as You Love Me.” The next morning, Mendes had 10,000 likes and followers, reported Billboard.com

Since that Vine clip, Mendes now has over 2.4 million followers on Vine, 534,000 subscribers, over 10 million views on YouTube and over one million followers on Twitter.

"This is my favorite thing to do," Mendes said about music, which he now sees as a way to make a living There hasn't been a downside in his dream, except for photo shoots. "I had to create an alternate personality named Benito because I'm so awkward and uncomfortable. He's very Spanish."

Mendes' mom, a real estate agent, and dad, the owner of a bar supplying company, have shown full support in his dream. "They're absolutely incredible about everything that's going on," said Mendes with a smile. "They're always asking if I'm having fun, liking what I'm doing, and what I'm doing makes me happy."

He is scheduled to tour the U.S. and Canada with Austin Mahone and the Vamps starting July 25 in San Antonio, Texas.

Mendes’ debut E.P., “The Shawn Mendes EP,” is available for pre-order on iTunes. The E.P drops on July 28.
