Panthers' Hardy Found Guilty of Assaulting, Threatening Holder

Posted: Updated:

Carolina Panthers' defensive end Greg Hardy was found guilty of assaulting and threatening ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder on Tuesday. Hardy was sentenced to 60 days in jail and 18 months supervised probation as a result of misdemeanor charges including assault on a female and communicating threats after a May altercation between Hardy and Holder.   The judge then suspended Hardy's sentence, but the defense requested an appeal and a trial in superior court, putting things on hold.

Both Hardy and Holder testified in the trial, which lasted just over 10 hours.

Holder was emotional on the stand. She said Hardy threw her up against a bathtub before strangling and threatening to kill her. Upon cross-examination by the defense, she admitted she did cocaine inside a bathroom at the Blackfinn Bar at the EpiCentre prior to the altercation.

The prosecution called several witnesses, including Christina Lawrence, who made one of three 911 calls during the May 13th altercation. Lawrence said she was “buzzed” the night she heard bodies being dragged in Hardy’s apartment.

Hardy then took the stand himself, stating that he paid Holder's rent and ended their relationship at the Pro Bowl.

Hardy’s assistant Sammy Curtis was another one of the defense’s key witnesses. He claimed Holder was belligerent on the night of the incident.
