I guess you could say my journalism career began about the time I won “Best Storyteller” in my kindergarten class. I’m a proud graduate of Winston-Salem State University, where I worked at the school newspaper for four years, three as sports editor and one as editor-in-chief.

Sometimes, off-season training regimens can become boring. Mundane.  Tiresome.  Others can be the type that elongate a career, energize a player, and improve an athlete's quality of life, both on the field and off.  Mike Tolbert hopes he's come across his version of the latter.

With most of the other major sports on hiatus, Major League Baseball takes center stage in the summer. Tuesday night, baseball’s best and brightest will meet in the MLB All-Star Game at 8pm on FOX.

Headlining the American League squad is New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who is appearing in his 14th and final All-Star game. He will be joined by Oakland’s Yoenis Cespedes, who won the Home Run Derby for the second year in a row Monday night. Red Sox Manager John Ferrell will coach the team and Seattle’s Felix Hernandez will start on the mound.

The National League squad will feature reigning MVP Andrew McCutchen of Pittsburgh. St. Louis’ Mike Matheny will manage the team and Cardinals’ righty Adam Wainright will be the team’s starting pitcher.

The National League has won three of the last four All-Star Games, but the American League put a stop to that last year with a 3-0 win. The winner of this game will have home field advantage in the World Series.
