Christie Enlists 'The Rock' In Video On Pension Reform Fight

Posted: Updated:

The latest YouTube video from Gov. Chris Christie's office portrays his ongoing fight for pension form as a Hollywood action thriller, and he's got a famous sidekick.

The movie-trailer-style video posted to Christie's YouTube channel says it's from "Statehouse Studios" – complete with a screen indicating it's "Rated R For Reform." It uses dramatic music, movie footage and language as well as some guest appearance from actor and wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to portray the battle in epic terms.

"The looming crisis is clear," Christie states. "We can no longer stand around and say, 'It's not a problem. Don't worry about it.'"

Other scenes of Christie speaking are punctuated with on-screen text that reads "tough choices" and "new resolve."

Later, the clip, which is titled "No pain. No Gain." says the saga will star "Governor Christie," "The People of New Jersey," "The Rock," and "The N.J. Legislature (Hopefully)…"

Christie has been focusing on the state's new budget and his push for more public pension and benefits reforms at recent town hall forums.

Protesters angry about the budget and education funding, however, repeatedly interrupted the governor's last town hall.

In June, a judge sided with Christie and said he can cut contributions for public employee pensions.

Christie said at the time that in order to balance the budget he would have to cut about $2.5 billion in payments to the state employee pension program. He said it was the only way to close a nearly $3-billion budget gap and vowed to veto any bills that raise taxes.

The governor then went on to veto Democratic tax hikes and delay contributions to the public employees' pension fund to fill the budget gap, and he has been defending those choices.
