    Marshall Park in Charlotte was filled with hundreds of people. Protesting what is traditionally a holiday aimed at celebrating the working people, but instead, begging for higher wages for those working jobs with hourly rates.

More than twelve thousand women, members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority flocked to the Queen City. Spending the week here, for their biggest convention of the year.

The event is also an opportunity to boost local business. These thousands of women stayed in hotels, ate at local restaurants, and brought attention to the city, and it's ability to host large events.

The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority will host the state's largest dinner, of more than ten thousand ladies. The event has been planned a long time ago, and takes months to prepare.

 July is typically a slow month for the hotel business, but this convention boosted a slow month.
