I’m a local boy from Claremont, North Carolina. I attended Western Carolina University where I received a B.S. in Communication with a double concentration of broadcasting and journalism. While in college I was the General Manager of WWCU-FM and color commentated WCU football basketball games.

Uptown Charlotte will be covered in pink & green for the next week. More than 11,000 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority members are in town for the organization's 66th Boule.

The theme of the week is "Global Leadership Through Timeless Service." It is a theme AKA's members are proud to be a part of.

"That's what we're about," said AKA Sister Keisha Kirkpatrick. "We're a service to all mankind, everywhere."

Saturday AKA held a benefit golf tournament and the Stop Hunger Now service project for International Mandela Day. The golf tournament was at the Ballantyne Golf Club with all proceeds going to AKA's Educational Advancement Foundation. The EAF funds scholarships to help continue college educations and funds community assistance grants.

Stop Hunger Now is the sorority's commitment to fight global hunger. Over 1,000 members and volunteers packaged 100,000 meals for the worlds hungry. It is being commemorated as "International Mandela Day" in tribute to the late global icon, Nelson Mandela.
