Healing the Burn: Pancakes for a Cause

Posted: Updated:

Charlotte, N.C. (WJZY) -- Who doesn't like to wake up to a hot stack of pancakes on a Saturday morning?

Question is, why are Charlotte firefighters at 7th Street Market in uptown Charlotte flipping flapjacks?

"When the bell goes off, we get on the truck, we treat a patient, we put the fire out, we load them in the ambulance, and then we go home," said Jason Dickson, a Charlotte Firefighter.

"It really doesn't hit us until we get home to our own families that it could have been our family, my own son, that I just put in the ambulance," said Dickson.

Jason Dickson and all the other firefighters are passing out pancakes for a cause: raising money for folks they save everyday from the fire.

"We go to the hospital, we get to interact with them, and see them in the recovery phase. Then 2-3 years down the road, we get to go to camp with them, that just brings it all home to us," said Dickson.

If you weren't able to make it out this morning for the hotcakes, you can still help these burn victims and their families. Here's more info on the Firefighter's Burned Children Fund.
