Gaston County Woman Turns Herself In After Faking Death

Posted: Updated:

Charlotte, N.C. (WJZY) – A Gaston County woman turned herself in after faking her death.

Amy Arrington turned herself in at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office Thursday, July 10th, at 2:31 in the morning.

N. Myrtle Beach Police Department says her husband, Paul Arrington, reported her missing Saturday evening, July 5th.

The police report says Paul Arrington was lying on the beach for 15-20 minutes while his wife went into the ocean. When Arrington got up to look for her, he says she was gone.

Cops say Horry County, N. Myrtle Beach Rescue, DNR, NMB Lifeguards, and the Coast Guard sent out search crews to look for Amy Arrington, but didn’t find her.

According to police, there was a red flag warning on Saturday due to rip currents.

Cops say Amy and Paul Arrington concocted the plan to fake her death to avoid a court date.

Amy Arrington was set to appear in Mecklenburg County Court on Monday, July 7th, for identity theft, fraud, and false pretense charges.

Amy Arrington has a lengthy criminal record in Mecklenburg County dating back to 2003.
