If you live along Mallard Creek Church Road, you have seen many changes in the last few years. The I-485 extension project has been underway since 2010 and it's now in it's final portion in the Mallard Creek area. It's causing headaches for one family though.

Little Sugar Creek Greenway is located in the heart of the Metropolitan area in Uptown Charlotte. The trail could get miles longer though.

It’s part of a proposal from Charlotte Transportation. Trails would be extended around the city. Those areas include the UNCC area, NoDa, Metropolitan, Park Road Shopping Center, Freedom Park, and the University and Mallard Creek area.

The Mallard Creek portion of the proposal includes extending the greenway to the city limits. In total, the city would account for 13 miles of the extension.

"It could be extended a little bit more. I think that if it was more extended, I would ride it more often," said Christina Butler. Butler walks and rides Little Sugar Creek Greenway, part of the proposed extension.

The proposed “Cross-Charlotte” trail would cost millions. Five million dollars would be proposed in the 2014 bond and $30 million would be included in the 2016 bond.

"All together the city's portion would cost $35 million that's to go about thirteen miles, that includes bridges and underpasses, new trail alignment, and all the amenities associated with the trail," said Dan Gallagher of the Charlotte Department of Transportation Office.

Voters will have their say on the ballot in November in regards to the bond.
