With McRoberts Gone, Zeller Steps Up

Posted: Updated:

Charlotte Hornet fans got the disappointing news Monday from Pat Riley when he confirmed that F Josh McRoberts had agreed to terms on a 4-year deal estimated around $24 million. That news had fans asking, who will replace McBob?

That man is Cody Zeller.

"It's one less guy in my position yea," said Zeller. "But I'm working just as hard as I ever was."

Zeller is gearing up for Summer League and is excited for the opportunity to tone his game and step up into a more dominate role on the floor.

"Become more consistent on mid-range jumpers and then extend them to three-pointers," said Zeller. "I think that is going to add so much to my game."

The mid-range and beyond the arch were two areas that McRoberts carried his weight in and now that he is in South Beach, someone has to pick up that slack. However, assistant coach Patrick Ewing and Zeller would like to bring power to the paint.

"When he (Zeller) drives the ball he has to finish it stronger," said Ewing. "We're also going to try to post him some."

"Open more driving lanes for me and my teammates," said Zeller. "I think that's a big part of the summer."

The Hornets travel to Las Vegas on Friday to kick off their Summer League against the Golden State Warriors.
