Rock Hill woman featured on "It takes A Church" Game show

Posted: Updated:

Many people use dating services and apps for matchmaking, but one Rock Hill woman is doing the opposite.

Valeria Odom is a single woman and church member of The Well in Rock Hill. She says Christianity is a big part of her life."I pray daily, I get in God's face daily," Valeria says. " I worship, I praise all of that." She considers herself a good woman, but says she hasn't had the best of luck when it comes to her love life. "I found myself in the past in relationships where I'm trying to be a reflection of who this guy wants me to be and not being myself totally."  She set out to change that.

Valeria auditioned for the Game Show Network's new  dating game television show, "It Takes A Church." During the show, the congregation surprises a single person from the church and sets them up on dates with someone who the church believes is the best fit for them. Valeria says she was confident that she would be chosen for the show. "I remember going into the audition and telling them I don't care who you interviewed before me you're gonna pick me," she said. Valeria was right, but was caught off guard when she was selected. "They tricked me," Valeria said. "I was on stage and she said we came for one lucky girl, I was like they're talking about me," Valeria said while smiling.

After she was chosen, Valeria went on four different dates to see which guy she had the right chemistry with. "It was actually fun. I got to know each of the guys, we did like a community outreach." Although she had a good time with each guy, she can only choose one to give her heart to.  Valeria chose Nelson from Jacksonville, North Carolina. "She's really a wonderful young woman," Nelson says. "She's beautiful and she's just so inspiring. She's always so positive and has a great outlook on life."  Even though hundreds of miles set them apart Valeria says she is okay with her decision." We got to know each other on a one-on-one basis. He was himself the whole time, and I really had fun with him. I love to have fun," Valeria said.

The two love birds said they  had a true connection. "It was real, we did not know what was going to happen next we were blind sided by everything," Nelson said. "It was real, I couldn't say certain things because it was a Christian show, but it was real," Valeria said.

Maurice Revel, the Pastor of The Well says the game show was a great outlet to show Christians depicted in a positive way." The world needs to see more wholesome clean television shows that don't depict Christians as being hate mongers, but we're just average ordinary people."
