On a record-breaking night at BB&T Ballpark on Saturday, the Charlotte Knights beat the Norfolk Tides by a score of 6-3 in the finale of their two-game series. The Knights welcomed their 22nd sell-out crowd of the 2014 campaign and surpassed their all-time highest attendance mark in a single season (429,132 in 1993).

Micah Johnson ripped three hits, Marcus Semien had two hits and three RBIs, and the Knights cruised past the Tides on Saturday in front of 10,219 fans in Uptown Charlotte. The win snapped Charlotte’s three-game losing skid.

Charlotte starter Shawn Hill earned his first win of the season with the Knights after allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits over seven innings. Hill, who improved to 3-3 with a 4.83 ERA on the season (also pitched for Buffalo this year), walked two and struck-out two.

The Knights scored all six of their runs in the bottom of the third inning off Norfolk starter Nick Additon (3-5, 4.73). Carlos Sanchez drove home the first run of the inning on an RBI single. The offense then exploded against Addition.

With the bases loaded and no outs, Semien roped a bases-clearing double into the center field gap, which scored three runs. Charlotte led the Tides 4-0 at that point. The inning continued when Josh Phegley hit an RBI triple to give the Knights a 5-0 lead. Two batters later, a sacrifice fly by Andy Wilkins drove in Phegley to make it a 6-0 lead. That was all the Knights would need to finish off the Tides on Saturday.

Reliever Donnie Veal tossed a scoreless eighth inning, while Taylor Thompson shut the door in the ninth for his sixth save of the season.

The Knights will now make the trek to Moosic, PA to open a four-game series with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at 7:05 p.m. on Sunday. RHP Deunte Heath (5-1, 2.39) gets the start for Charlotte in the opener. Pre-game radio coverage starts at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 730 AM, WRHI (94.3 FM and 1340 AM), and online at The “Voice of the Charlotte Knights” Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action.
