Huntersville,NC -  The Hagers Ferry community in Huntersville has certainly been decked out with American pride for the Fourth of July weekend after homeowner Rick Shinn, lined the neighborhood with American flags. It's become a bit of a tradition for the neighborhood, after he started putting them up for national holidays, like Veterans Day and Memorial Day, about a year ago.

"It's the least that I can do for the heroes that gave so much for my freedom," Shinn explained. He said he started the idea, by lining just the entrance of the community with the flags but this holiday there's one in front of just about every home.

"I was shocked when I first saw it because I've never seen anything like this done before," said neighbor Danny Tedder. Shinn said since he started, his community has offered to help put the flags up and he's received lots of encouragement. "I would hope that other neighbors see this and take notice and they would try to do the same thing in their neighborhood, promote this," said Tedder.

For Shinn, the flags aren't just about celebrating a holiday, he rides with the Patriot Guard Riders attending the funerals of our veterans. That's what gave him the idea for his neighborhood, "I started seeing the veterans and their families and started riding with combat veterans and the folks who've been out there on the front line and served and got a real sense of the respect and responsibility that they feel for the country and our ability to fly the flag and do what we do every day." Shinn has spent hundred of his own dollars on the flags but said it's all worth it and he plans to continue the trend.

"As long as I'm able, physically able, to go out and keep staking the flags up."
