The Town of Banner Elk brought in the 4th of July with a contest featuring rubber ducks.

The annual event helped raise nearly $10,000 for the Kiwanis Club, which uses the funds to support the community.

“It's all part of Banner Elk being small town America,” said John Heinlein, Banner Elk Kiwanis Club. “We have this beautiful town park, a creek running through it.

"People come down, they enjoy Kiwanis Club big fundraiser, the rubber ducks, it just gets the kids and the adults super excited. We raised almost $9700 here today. All the proceeds go to support local schools, homeless relief agencies, and other organizations of a charitable nature."

The event was part of the annual “Party in the Park,” which follows the Independence Day Parade.
