More than 60 thousand participates hit the pavement early Friday morning for the 45th annual Peachtree Road Race.

The world's largest 10K road race is a Fourth of July tradition in Atlanta. The race was first held in 1970, when 110 runners competed.

Everyone who finishes will receive the traditional Peachtree Road Race T-shirt.

Competitors in the wheelchair division started at 6:45 a.m. The elite runners hit the course at 7:30 a.m.

The final wave of runners left the start line in front of Lenox Square just after 9 a.m.

Dozens of wheelchair athletes showed their incredible strength during the race. The Shepherd Center Wheelchair Division crowned two four-time champions.
