Charlotte Mecklenburg police spent the morning interviewing Angelo Grayson Smith Junior, the boyfriend of missing teacher Bianca Tanner. They say he's a person of interest in the case.

He was recently extradited from Chicago back to Charlotte on charges unrelated to the Tanner case. Tuesday morning, police moved him to the Mecklenburg county jail.

Smith was arrested by U.S. Marshals near Chicago on Thursday. They charged Smith with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Chief of police Rodney Monroe says Smith has misled and misdirected the investigation process for the search for Tanner. He says they’re staying hopeful in finding the whereabouts of Tanner.

“I believe there are things that we can do and that we need to do. If we need to interview people for the hundredth time, we will do that,” Monroe said.

According to a search warrant, police interviewed Tanner's 3-year-old son Jarrod. He told police “Mommy got a spanking with the belt. Angelo kicked mommy’s butt and made her cry. Angelo is mean to mommy and mommy in the face.”

The warrant stated that police were searching for any evidence related to an assault on a female. It also gave a possible account of the night before her disappearance.

Detectives with the Charlotte- Mecklenberg Police Department are treating her disappearance as a homicide.
