USC's World Cup Connection

The University of South Carolina Men's Soccer Team has been well represented in the World Cup. USC is one of two (UCLA) NCAA Division I school's that have sent former players to four straight World Cup tournaments.

"All of our guys take pride in the University of South Carolina Soccer," said head coach Mark Berson.

Berson has been at the helm of the program for 36 seasons. He has the most wins among active coaches in D I soccer at 455. He is proud to have his former players on the World Cup stage.

Forward Clint Mathis (2002 World Cup), Forward Josh Wolff (World Cup 2002 & 2006), and Goalkeeper Brad Guzan (World Cup 2010 & 2014)

"To have them go on and be a part of something like that is a great thing," said Berson.

Coach Berson hopes the USC tradition of sending players to the World Cup will continue for Russia in 2018.

"Our goal is to get the next one out there," said Berson.
