For the past ten years, South End has been developing, but not all of South End has caught up-until now. Sedgefield Shopping Center will soon be torn down to make room for a brand new strip mall. You might know the shopping center as home to Healthy Home Market. That store will be moving to Central Avenue and in its place- Harris Teeter.

The store will not be a typical grocery store according to developers, but it will also serve food and alcohol and have outdoor seating for customers. Developers say they also plan to fill the rest of retail location with local stores. They will not house any chains. Some people said at a community meeting tonight that they were worried about "mom and pop" shops being phased out.

The shopping center has been up for decades and has gone three facelifts in the past 45 years. Now, developers will knock down the mall and build it from the ground up. Stores in the current mall have until October to vacate.

Plans for construction will begin in February and will take about 2 years to finish.
