Jeff Gordon captured his fifth victory in the Brickyard 400 today at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His name will go down in history as the winningest NASCAR driver at the Indiana track. But, he is not the only multiple champion.

Last year, Ryan Newman won the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. As you can imagine, the team was excited and proud of the accomplishment. That was certainly true for Catawba County’s Jason Jarrett.

Kannapolis, NC - The Kannapolis Police Department arrested 22 people in what they called a “roundup” earlier today.

“We’ve bought illegal [prescription] drugs from them and we have been able to make cases on them,” said Chief James Chavis, Kannapolis Police Department. “This roundup today is just a culmination of those investigations to make a statement in trying to bring awareness to the fact that prescription drug sales is a problem. Hopefully, this will bring some public awareness to it.”

The department cites hydrocodone, oxycodone and other opiate-based prescription drugs as the most prevalent. They also say there is no specific age of person they look for.

“It’s across the board,” said Sgt. Joe Yurco. There is no average age when it comes to prescriptions. People get their prescriptions, get them filled and it’s easy to sell.”

Chief Chavis commented, “I think that this is just another avenue and another aspect that has popped up because people have found that prescription medications are easily accessible, there’s a profit margin in selling them.”

The Kannapolis Police Department is still looking for three suspects. If you have information, please call (704) 920-4000.
