What's more All American for the Fourth of July than a good old hot dog? If you're looking for a patriotic meal, you can head to either Dilworth or Ballantyne and check out JJ's Red Hots.

A trip to the border is only a short hop these days - over to the North Carolina Music Factory. A new Tex-Mex spot called TexiCali Taco and Tequila Bar just opened. Our restaurant expert Sarah Crosland recently checked the place out.

The first thing you notice when you walk in is the artwork and decor. The theme is Dios De La Muerta, the Mexican holiday that honors deceased relatives. The artwork associated with the day is bright and colorful, and features skeletons and skulls. As a tribute to the southern coast of the U.S. there are also motorcycles, low riders, and hotrods.

The food and drink fits the decor. Chef de Cuisine Carlos Rangel is from Mexico City, and the food is filled with the flavors and spices of both Mexico and the Southern U.S. One of the signature dishes that Crosland checked out was the TexiCali nachos smothered in house smoked brisket.

Executive Chef Gene Briggs, who also works across the way at the upscale Osso, said the owners felt there was a need for a more accessible eating and drinking spot in The Music Factory, and that TexiCali fits the bill.

TexiCali is located inside the NC Music Factory complex at 900 NC Music Factory Blvd.
