In 1994, NASCAR ran the first Sprint Cup Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. That first race is remembered for its significance and Jeff Gordon is known for capturing the first victory. However, there is a chance another person’s name could be etched in history as the winner of that first win.

Do you think you can your family could go six months without buying anything new? There are two families here in Charlotte that have taken on that very challenge. The women behind health coaching company 'Spunky Avocado' brought their families on board for what they've dubbed the 'Suburban Smackdown'.

The new-look Panthers will give fans a sneak peak of an upgraded Bank of America Stadium on Friday.

The Carolina Panthers are off for just over a month, until they start Training Camp in Spartanburg in late July. But between now and then, many of the team's players will spend time at the Panthers facility, working to better themselves for the 2014 season. Before the team left for their break, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera had Sergeant First Class Cedric King, a double amputee, help deliver a message to the team.

The crux of the message centered around proving people wrong, as many national pundits have pegged the Panthers as a team that will regress in 2014, due to their loss of several key players.

"A lot of people aren't expecting much from you. They think last year was a bolt of lightning and it won't strike twice," Rivera said of King's message. "It was neat to have him give the guys a parting shot in terms of, 'You know what, let's go out and defy a lot of people.'"
