Boat stolen from Monroe church

Posted: Updated:
An aluminum boat was stolen from Mill Creek Baptist Church in Monroe on Tuesday. An incident report has been filed with the Union County Sheriff's Office.

Mill Creek Baptist has a two-sided sign on it's front property. One side reads "Thou shall not steal -- please return our boat." The other reads "Please return our boat -- it was borrowed!"

"You can't justify stealing, that's sin," Pastor George Hunnicutt said. "However, we do again want to emphasize that we are willing to forgive, however we would like the boat to be returned."

The Sheriff's Office said a possibility is that the boat could have been stolen to be scrapped for metal. The church hasn't ruled out the theft being a prank put on by "high schoolers."

Mill Creek Baptist said the boat was borrowed from a church member as a decoration for it's Vacation Bible Study. A sign next to where the boat lied reads "Let's Sail to Galilee."

So, is there any warning from the church to those who crept off with their aluminum boat?

"There was one case in the Bible of a person who boarded a boat that he wasn't supposed to be on," Hunnicutt said. "And that didn't go so well for Jonah."

Jonah was swallowed by a large fish.
