Winthrop President Threatens Lawsuit Against University

Posted: Updated:

Winthrop President Jamie Comstock Williamson has hired an attorney to handle the Board of Trustee’s decision to suspend her duties as president last Friday.

Tuesday, Williamson’s attorney Bev Carroll sent a letter to the Board of Trustees, threatening a lawsuit for “violating the Employment Agreement,” AKA her contract.

In the letter, Carroll writes “the method in which this matter was handled was designed to deprive Dr. Williamson of an opportunity to address any and all concerns the Board of Trustees might have for reason I will outline hereinbelow.” Read the letter here.

The Board of Trustees held a special executive session behind closed doors last week to discuss Williamson’s contract, following a series of events that concerned Board members.

The Board told Williamson that they have “cause for termination” after describing her behavior as “explosive” and “unprofessional. Read the board's notice of the basis for cause for termination letter to Williamson here.
