Known for my unconventional reports, I am a digital journalist for My FOX Carolinas in Charlotte. I was born a long time ago in Syracuse, New York. Since then I have spent most of my life in Pennsylvania and Colorado. My biggest weakness: I have no weaknesses. I’m a smooth operator, operating correctly, and a master of journalism according to the University of Colorado.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is using science, to keep kids interested in reading throughout summer break.

Their theme for this summer is “Fizz, Boom, Read!” With many programs that promote science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

At the Mountain Island Library, the kids used chemistry to make their own bouncy balls. The fun activities draw the kids into the library, and when it’s time to leave, they check out books.

For more information on the summer reading programs, visit Charlotte Mecklenburg Library.

Here is the recipe for bouncy balls:

In one Dixie cup, mix 2 tablespoons of warm water and ½ teaspoon of borax. Stir to dissolve. Add your favorite food coloring.

In a second Dixie Cup, put 1 tablespoon of glue, ½ teaspoon of the borax solution you just made plus 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. DO NOT STIR.

Give the ingredients about 15 seconds to work their magic and then stir until it gets too difficult.

Use a spoon to pull the mixture into your palm and roll it around into a ball. It takes a little while for the glue to set.

*AVOID EATING THE BORAX OR PUTTING IT IN YOUR EYES!
