I got so sick of the Canadian cold, I moved down to Charlotte just to avoid the snow. And of course to join the My Fox Carolinas family as a Digital Journalist. I grew up in Calgary (think the Houston of Canada) and after graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Journalism, I moved to Toronto to cover sports; which in Canada means hockey.

Charlotte, NC - Owning a home is something many people work towards their whole lives. Losing it can be devastating.

June is National Homeowners Month, and to celebrate, North Carolina’s Housing Finance Agency is trying to draw attention to a program aimed at helping keep people in the homes they worked so hard for.

The Home Foreclosure Prevention Fund makes mortgage payments for people who are looking for work or completing job training. If they qualify, the fund will make those payments for up to 36 months. No repayment is due as long as the homeowner remains in the home.

Since the fund was created in 2010, it has helped more than 1600 homeowners. 98 per cent of them were able to avoid foreclosure.

Director Bob Kucab says not enough people are aware of the fund. He believes more people would take advantage of it and be able to stay in their homes if only they knew more about the program.

For more information on this program visit www.NCForeclosurePrevention.gov or call 888-623-8631.
