Good news for Chester County, a global tire manufacturer announced its bringing jobs to the county and investing millions of dollars in the region.
Giti Tire, a Singaporean company, is establishing it’s first North American plant and creating 1,700 new jobs over the next 10 years. The company is also planning to invest $560 million in this endeavor.
Giti is the 10th largest tire company in the world, and plans to manufacture light truck tires for the Original Equipment Manufacturer and replacement markets. The facility will be located on the Carolinas I-77 Mega Site.
Both manufacturing and distribution will take place from the Chester County plant, and the building is expected to be about 1.8 million square feet.
Initially, the plant is expected to produce five million tires each year. Production can increase should demand and market conditions warrant it.
“This is a key milestone for Giti Tire and an important part of our growth strategy worldwide., said Enki Tan, executive chairman of Giti Tire Group. “Existing business and strong demand for Giti Tire’s passenger and light truck tires in North America has made this significant investment in South Carolina possible. ”
Governor Nikki Haley touted the announcement as a “huge win” for the state.
“We are the nation’s tire capital,” Haley said “And Giti’s decision to come to our state is another great sign that our economic development efforts are paying off for the hardworking people of South Carolina.”
