Winthrop President Given a Notice For Cause of Termination

Posted: Updated:

The board of trustees at Winthrop University gave President Jamie Comstock-Williamson a notice for cause of termination. This happened as the board of trustees met in a special meeting Friday.

After meeting for 5 hours behind closed the doors, the board of trustees decided to suspend Williamson. The University Provost will handle the duties of the president for the time being. Williamson will have the opportunity to speak to the board of trustees on June 26 before any further action is taken.

They would not elaborate on the cause.

The meeting happens just one day after President Jamie Williamson and her husband Larry returned $27,000 to the university that he made while working as a temporary employee.

“During the entire stint of (Larry Williamson’s) nine-month employment, we took great care to comply with the South Carolina Ethics Act,” President Williamson said in a statement.
