A German art installation debuts in Center City

Posted: Updated:
Buddy Bear has made it to the Queen City all the way from Germany!

The public art installation was unveiled outside of the Main Library at N. Tryon and 6th Streets at Arequipa Park. It is a donation to the City of Charlotte as a thank you from the German Community to the citizens of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Buddy Bear was donated in honor of Princess Charlotte, born in Mecklenburg, Germany.

Sharon Dowell, the artist who created the design, was selected through a public art contest facilitated by the Arts and Science Council and McColl Center for Visual Arts. Eleven artists submitted designs.

Buddy Bear is a gift that represents international goodwill through art and is a part of a larger project worldwide.
