A private memorial service was held for Maya Angelou at Wake Forest University inside Wait Chapel. The memorial was titled "A Celebration of Rising Joy."

The poet and author died last week at the age of 86 in her home. The service had just about anyone inside - her former students, politicians, family, friends, and people who considered her an inspiration in their life. The chapel could seat up to 2,250 people.

First Lady Michelle Obama, former president Bill Clinton and Oprah Winfrey were among the guest speakers at the service.

Winfrey organized the memorial to honor Angelou’s legacy. The family has confirmed that there will be other celebrations scheduled at various locations.
