Hickory, NC - The Downtown Hickory Farmers' Market launched a new event Thursday called Tastin', Tunes & Tomatoes. While the market is a Wednesday and Saturday staple under the sails in downtown, this event offered a few different options for shoppers.

"Evening markets, historically, let you have some flexibility as to who shows," said Sally Fox with the Downtown Hickory Farmers' Market. "So we’ve chosen this opportunity to partner with retail.”

Patrons shopped local farmers and also had the opportunity to visit booths from local merchants and restaurants. Union Square's Olde Hickory Station, Olde Hickory Tap Room and Wholly Crepes set up shop within walking distance of the restaurant entrances.

"We’re a new restaurant and we want to find ways to expose people to what we have," said Joe Sample, general manager, Olde Hickory Station. "If we can get people, that are already right downtown, interested in fresh local produce, then why not come on right across the tracks to where we use it on our menus and on our specials.”

As people shopped, they were treated to music from Hickory-area band Falls Avenue. Exercise groups and even yoga was part of tonight's offerings, along with a live painter and other area artisans.

The Downtown Hickory Farmers' Market is slated open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays through November 1.
