Don't Forget ID At The Polls On Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

Tuesday is the primary election in South Carolina. Voters will determine who goes on to the general election held in November. But this is the first statewide election that will enforce the voter ID law signed by the Governor in 2012.

The law has been in effect for over a year but this will be the first election where every precinct will require voters to present an ID.

“Anytime there is a new change to any type of election law, there will be a few hiccups,” said Deputy Director of Elections in York County, Alan Helms.

Under the new law, you can show a state driver’s license, a state ID card, a voter registration card with a photo, a military ID or a passport.

But if you don’t have any of those, you won’t be turned away.

“They will have to vote a paper ballot,” said Helms. “Or they can come to our office and get a photo ID taken here on Election Day.”
