I’m a local boy from Claremont, North Carolina. I attended Western Carolina University where I received a B.S. in Communication with a double concentration of broadcasting and journalism. While in college I was the General Manager of WWCU-FM and color commentated WCU football basketball games.

Tonight was a special night for a group of young ladies. 21 to be exact, they received their high school diploma. However, for one of the recipients, it was extra special.

West Charlotte senior Keaundra Boyd is a mother. As are the other 20 high school graduates. The reason it was unique for Keaundra? She is the first person in her immediate family to receive a high school diploma.

When asked how her family was feeling, "Tears of joy," said Boyd.

Boyd has been involved in the Safe Journey/APP program. This program is a secondary intervention group for teens in Mecklenburg County who are pregnant or are already parents.

This is not the end for Boyd. She plans to attend North Carolina A&T in the fall to major in psychology and minor in business.
